Role of the Trust
The Trust has a bearing on the running of the Governors; therefore the Governors should have a broad understanding of how the Trustees operate. The Trustees have a special role involving the financial and legal responsibility to the Trust. This demands regular attention, discretion, commitment and financial expertise.
The Trustees are responsible for ensuring that the Trust operates in accordance with all legal and financial regulations in law or as required by the Charity Commission. The Trustees are registered as Directors of the Trust at Companies House and therefore have the same responsibilities as any company director.
The Trustees are responsible for:
- all financial aspects of the Trust and the Schools it operates.
- the financial viability of the Schools owned by the Trust dealing with banking facilities, financial arrangements, loans, mortgages and other financial matters to facilitate the Trust and the Schools’ operations.
- monitoring the monthly cash flow of the accounts.
- working with the Bursar in planning short and long term expenditure, agreeing priorities and time scales in the best interest of the Trust.
- generating and formulating of short, medium and long term development plans of the Trust and the Schools t operates with regard to the financial and investment plans.
- dealing with any legal matters associated with the Trust and its administration of the Schools it owns and operates.
- dealing with debtors of the Trust and the and the Schools it owns or operates.
- planning and agreeing investment strategies in the Trust and the Schools it operates.
- setting School fees and formulating policy on award of academic and other Bursaries.
- setting in consultation with Heads of School staffing levels and salaries.
- managing any leases or planning requirements of the Trust and the Schools it operates.
- liaising effectively with the Head Teachers, the Bursar, the Governors and the staff.
- communicating with governors, staff and parents with regard to financial management concerts.
- joint appointment with Governors of Heads and Deputy Heads of Schools.
- appointment of Bursar.
