Poetry Competition 2008 winners
First Prize Switzerland, by Nicholas
Mountains are as still as dust on trees
Stuck in the mud and strong
As a line of plants in the open air.
Snowmen, still, cold, white, fat
And a great target for a snowball competition
Trains rushing through the stations,
Whistling and tooting
People charging to get a seat.
Ie-skating, slippery, dangerous, fun, scary,
But a good experience.
Landscape, a trap, all hilly and confusing
To the mind.
Second Prize My Pet Dog, by Louise
My dog is as cute as a cuddly toy
As naughty as a cheeky monkey
As sweet as sugar.
My dog is like a kangaroo jumping about
He is as clever as my brother
He can’t stand still.
My pet dog is a load of fun!
And that’s what I wanted!
Third Prize The Zombie, by Samuel W
The zombie’s neck covered
With congealed blood
His bones as weak as paper
Blood and bones stick out of his neck
He holds his head like a bomb
Flesh as rotten
As an old piece of chicken
Hair pokes from his nostrils
Like the hair on a giant spider
He smells of dead fish
The zombie is back!
Commended I wish… by Samuel J
I wish I had a pet lion called Nick,
With fur as gold as the gleaming sun.
As deadly as a poison sting,
Cunning as a fox
Strong as a bear
And quick as a hare.
