Poem: ‘Monkey Business', by Toby, 1st Prize

image of a monkey Monkeys are cheeky
Monkeys are rude
Monkeys are smelly
Monkeys drink booze

Monkeys are good
At climbing trees
They tease the animals
Till they beg on their knees

They eat bananas image of a monkey
Until they feel sick
They eat flies and apple pies
With toppings of lies

They sing songs
And do wrong
And have a big tail to grab the big trees
So now you can see,
Monkeys are cheeky.

Just like me!

Poem: ‘Full Time', by Arman, 2nd Prize

Goalkeepers, image of a football

   Defenders,

       Midfielders

              And strikers

Come out of the tunnell

Toss a coin to see who starts,

Kick off in the middle.

Forty five minutes in the first half

    Lots of fouls,

           Free kicks,

                   And penalties.

Maybe even goals.

Fifteen minutes in half time

Second half,

       More goals

            And dfferent score lines

At the end of the match.

Match over

    Crowd goes home

Full time!

Tennis, by Simon, 3rd Prize

You can play it on a court

Federer is first

Nadal is second

Tennis is fun for one and all

Forehand, backhand, volley, serve

On a tennis court

You will observe

Fifteen – love

Now it's fifteen all

Who knows the final score?

Thirty fifteen

Thirty all

Back and forth goes the ball,

Forty thirty

Game, set, all

Hamsters, by Francesca, Highly Commended

Some hamsters are happy,

Some hamsters are rude

Some hamsters are cool image of a hampster

And some hamsters are dudes

They hop and jump and throw themselves, thus,

They nibble and nibble, fit to bust.

They ride on their wheel and never stop

Sometimes I think they might pop!

They eat bits of this and bits of that,

Mine's even scared of the cat!

I think I saw one eating scrap

I like to imagine they have purses,

So thank you for sharing my verses.

The Weather, by Samuel R, Commended

image of the sun The cold weather makes me sad

The wet weather makes me mad

The snowy weather makes me happy

The stormy weather makes me scared

The sunny weather makes me joyful

The icy weather makes me shivery

The windy weather makes me feel breathless

But I just love all kind of weather.

The Mysterious Egg, by George, 1st Prize

One day we were walking in the woods and Babe, that's our dog, started to bark. We saw Babe staring at the ground.

“What have you found?”

We saw Babe had found a strange object. In fact it was an egg and it was large with black spikes coming out of it. We decided to take it home and put it next to the radiator in the front room. Babe was fascinated by the egg and kept trying to play with it and eat it. We all went to bed exhausted that day, but excited about what we had found.

In the night I heard strange cracking noises. I was too tired to go downstairs to investigate. I thought I heard a vacuum cleaner and the washing machine switch on, but I thought I must be dreaming.

When morning came and we all went down for breakfast, we could not believe our eyes and Mum was very confused! All the washing and ironing had been done, the carpet had been hovered and all the furniture had been polished. But the egg had vanished. Mum was delighted to see he house so clean, it must have been the mysterious egg that did the housework in the night.

If only we could find it, we could make a fortune and sell it to people. We would call it the Mysterious Egg that can do the Housework!

The Mysterious Egg, by Toby, Form 3, Second Prize

In a dark and mysterious mountain there was a large cave of doom. In the cave lived a fierce dragon who enjoyed having power over everybody and everybody was scared of him. The only way to break his power was to kill the dragon and destroy all the dragons' eggs, so no more dragons could hatch.

One day, the king of the land sent one of his bravest knights to the cave to kill the dragon and smash all his eggs. The knight wanted to be the hero and please the king. He ventured to the cave with his sharp dagger in his hand. He approached the entrance slowly and felt his way along the wall of the cave. It was dark and gloomy and smelt damp.

The knight came face to face with the dragon and a fierce battle took place. The knight pierced the dragon's heart and he fell to the ground. The knight now had to find all the dragons' eggs and smash them. He found three and smashed them with his dagger. But in the corner of the cave was another egg. It was different from the others. It glowed with many colours and was rather beautiful and too beautiful to destroy, so the knight decided to leave it.

He returned to the king and the king rewarded him for his courage, but the knight did not tell the king about the mysterious egg.
