Spring Term 2008
‘The Tunnel’, by Francesca It was a hot summer’s day and in a sunny glade there lay two skinny children, a boy and a girl, both aged nine. They were called Juliet and Jake. Jake was tall for his age, like Juliet. His eyes twinkled behind his glasses in the sun. His sister Juliet’s green ones looked positive and relaxed. By their sides lay one big wicker basket. At that moment, Juliet shouted “Air raid!”. The peace was shattered by a loud wailing sound. Then, thankfully, they spied a hole and jumped down it. Jake landed first, with a flump. “What is this place?” he questioned. “This is the Ninja HQ,” a voice hissed, hen said brightly, “Come in.” A few minutes later, a bizarre-looking creature dropped out of nowhere. It wore a balaclava and a black woollen suit. His black shoes had grips and were extremely pointy. He whipped off his balaclava. There stood an over large bat. Juliet screamed. “It’s all right,” he laughed. “Here are your things.” He produced two jet black suits. “Oh wow!” shouted Jake. “There are your rooms. I suggest you change, now.” Two hours later, they were training. “…now slide down the rope. That’s it! Good work, team. Come down now.” The ‘bat’ was teaching them some ninja skills. “Go and cook dinner,” he murmured. In five minutes they were cooking dinner. “He’s not to be trusted,” Jake said, darkly. “Nice magic,” Juliet replied as a ladder appeared. They climbed into the damp, earthy passage and out into the open. “Wonder if that was all a dream.” “There’s only one way to find out,” said Jake. ‘The Tunnel’, by Stephen One night, Stephen and Andrew were coming home from playing in the park when they saw a great, massive circle with gold and silver all around it. For some reason it looked suspicious because it was saying come in, come in, so they went in. it was massive inside, but at the end of it, there was a massive sweet shop. That is what they thought, but it was a magic sweet shop because there was chocolate, toffee and all kinds of sweets and they nearly ate it all. Then a giant came and said, “Fee, fie, foe, fum, I smell the blood of an English man.” They were so terrified that they hid, but not for long. The giant knew where they were, so he found them. Stephen and Andrew ran out of the shop and were in the middle of no-where. “Where are we, Andrew?” said Stephen. “I don’t know.” So they wandered everywhere, but there was no sign where the tunnel was, so they started to shout, “Help! Help! Help!” But there was still no sign of anybody, so they went back inside the sweet shop. There was no sign of the giant, so they started looking there, but still no sign of the tunnel. Then they saw it in the sky. It was floating, but it would not come down. They got all the sweets and stacked them up, but they still could not reach, so they went for more sweets. There weren’t any, so they looked and looked until they found a door saying ‘Sweet maker – The Giant’. They were scared, but still they went in and they found all the sweets they needed. They got it all before the giant came and ran like a flash and made it so quickly. They jumped into the tunnel, ran to the other end and it led them straight home. ‘The Tunnel’, by Seung Yeon One day, Emily went to Antonia’s house. They were best friends and fourteen years old. Emily whose hobbies are netball, shopping and dancing was funny, crazy generous and a show off. Antonia was friendly, kind, generous, clever and popular with boys. Her hobbies were netball, shopping and acting. Emily said, “Shall we go to the park, today, as it is a beautiful day?” so the two of them set off to the park in Antonia’s mum’s car. She drove them both to the park and then went, for the two best friends to have their time together. When she had gone, they both spotted a huge tunnel. Antonia said, “I’ve never seen that huge tunnel before!” They hid so they would not be seen and were able to get to the tunnel without anyone noticing. Finally, they reached the entrance. The two chums were feeling quite excited and quite nervous at the same time. The outside looked very old and they were about to open the door, but it was locked. They looked on the ground and Emily found the key, so they were now very, very excited. Antonia slotted the key into the lock and it opened! They were feeling joyful and excited when they stepped into the tunnel together. Inside, it was dark, gloomy, old, crumpled and, when they spoke, it reverberated. Emily was disappointed and so was Antonia, because it wasn’t as good as they thought it would be. “But what do you think is at the other door at the other end of the tunnel?” Antonia cried. “I don’t know. Shall we see?” They both went to the other door. Emily opened it and it led them to a whole, new world. They were on a beautiful island. They were amazed and couldn’t believe their eyes. They were speechless. They had started to explore the island when they saw a mermaid sat on a massive rock. They were unsure what to do, but they went up to the mermaid and Antonia said, “Hello, I’m Antonia. What is your name?” The mermaid said, “Hi! I’m Naomi and what is your friend’s name?” Antonia replied, “That is my best friend, Emily.” “Hi! Nice to meet you,” said Emily. “You’re such a beautiful mermaid. I wish I was a mermaid, like you.” “You may think it’s nice to be a mermaid,” said Naomi, “but you always get chased by the sharks here, although this is a wonderful place to be.” The three of them were chatting away about how Antonia and Emily got to the island and how old they were. Naomi was eighteen, a few years older than them. Antonia looked at her watch and said, “Emily and I should be getting back to the park car park. By now, my mum will be waiting in the car and would be very annoyed if we were to come back late.” They said they would both visit every now and again. Antonia and Emily waved goodbye to Naomi and headed back to the dark, spooky tunnel. When the two chums got out of the tunnel, they aimed towards the park car park. They already saw Lynn, Antonia’s mum, waiting in the car. She asked, “Did you have a good time?” Looking at each other, they both said, “Yes, it was excellent!” They headed back to Antonia’s house and told their mums that they had found a tunnel and went to a whole new world. They both visited the beautiful island every now and again, never forgetting the day they went through the tunnel and met a friendly mermaid called Naomi on Beautiful Island.
