First Prize My Best friend, Naomi, by Antonia If she were an animal, she would be A caring mother bear. If she were a colour, she would be Orange, bright and active. If she were a food, she would be Pizza, she’s very enjoyable. If she were a city, she would be London, popular and fascinating. If she were a drink, she would be Coke, fizzy and jumpy. If she were a game, she would be ‘Uno’, colourful as glass that reflects the sun. She will always be my best friend.
Second Prize Haunted House, by George On the top of the hill sits a massive house Black shabby walls, black roof, cracked windows. Meat with flies on it, Knives with blood on them. Owls eating rats on the creaking floors, Owls twit-twooing all night long, Cooing at the break of dawn, Flying around the roves, Owls sitting on graves. Rats running up and down the stairs, Scuttling under the floor boards. Creaky chairs sat under tables, Broken lights flickering in darkness. Air smells of bones in soil, Ghosts knocking on doors. Ghosts in the darkness.
Third Prize The Night Light Mouse, by Francesca I was working in the lab late one night, I opened my desk and received a fright. There sat a mouse, eating some cheese, He didn’t say thank you, he didn’t say please. He didn’t say hi, hello or goodbye, He just nibbled the cheese with a gleam in his eye. I saw that the mouse gave a source of light, In horror I realised his awful plight. He’d drunk all my potion, Oh what an emotion! In the end I used him As a nice night light. That sorted out the mouse all right! Highly Commended TV, by Toby Remote changes the channel instantly, In a flash of time. You can see soaps, the Simpsons, All of it is so entertaining. The funny enjoyment, the sounds, it’s amazing! Just a bit of plastic and some wires can create Simpsons, Malcolm in the middle, King Kong, Sports, Futurama, all of it. Every time I watch TV I feel one step closer To another dimension. Commended Chocolate, by Stephen Peel off the silver wrapper, Snap the crunchy chocolate in half And eat it all! It’s so good It tastes like gold. Brown, white and dark, It’s so creamy, delicious, Munchy and scrumptious. I will just eat it all in one bite… Yummy. Why have a pet? By Seungyeon If you buy a pet dog you will keep your family healthy because you can take it for walks. You will get to know how to love and help be responsible and when you take your dog for a walk, your dog will meet other dogs and they will become friends. The bad thing about buying a dog is when you go on holiday you can’t take it with you and you will have to let the kennels look after it and it will cost too much money. Also a bad thing is you have to pick up the dog poo on walks and it will smell! End to the story ‘Ninny is taken prisoner’, by Francesca Every day I would open my eyes and the first thing I would see is the foot of the bony old woman kicking me savagely saying, ‘Wake up! Wake up! She undid my chains which were fastened to the pigsty. ‘Get up!’ A stone hit the back of my head. She tied my hands together, took hold of the end of the rope and led me to the forest. She untied me and said, ‘Collect the firewood!’ and I did as I was told. I thought, ‘she is a blood-thirsty rotten piece of scum.’ I felt a distressed, miserable and desperate creature, who was stuck in a hole. I was scrubbing away at some stubborn stains in the hut when I saw the strong, metal keys which locked my chains every night. I quickly swapped them for some fakes. That night I slipped the real keys out of my pocket and silently ran down the path to the sea. Letter in response to a story, by Toby Dear Granddad, Since I wrote to you last the magpies have been very busy because they have been protecting their babies. Also they have been keeping warm. I was worried when I found a cracked egg in the morning. I thought it had been carried off by an owl. I counted all the chicks to make sure. They were all there, safe and sound. I shall write again. Love, Carla PS What shall I call the magpies?
