Sports Highlights of the Spring Term 2007

Under 11 Football v Woodhill, 20th March

Players of the Match: Jessica and Onkaar

Jessica: I missed three shots at goal, but the goal was tiny (Really, I mean it, very small – not much bigger than the goalie. We had more shots at goal than they did.

Onkaar: I had a couple of long shots at goal. One was when the goalie kicked it out, I volleyed it and he caught it. I was left mid-field.

Sanghoon: I saved a lot of goals, but it was a very small goal. They had a good chance from a header, but I dived and saved it, my best save for a long time.

Jake: I was in defence. It was a good match – they didn't win!

Frank: We did really well and we were on top.

Under 11 Football v Sherbourne House, 15th March

Player of the Match: Max

Max: They scored first, then a couple of minutes later we got a corner. Jordan centred and I volleyed it in.

Jordan : I had loads of shots at the goal, but the keeper saved them!

Rachel: I made quite a few good tackles and one brilliant header. The encouragement I got from Lucy's Mum, on the touchline, gave me the courage.

Sanghoon: Everyone played well. I didn't save that many because there were not many shooting opportunities. We had about nine shots at their goal.

Kerr: I was fitter than other matches, because I kept running up and down and didn't get out of breath. They had a big goalkeeper. The match was well attended by our parents. It was really nice to have their support.

Under 11 Football v Fair Oak, 14th March

Jordan : I scored our only goal. I had to take it round a few people, so it wasn't just a shot at goal. It was a good match for me.

Sanghoon: The opposition was good. They were fast at passing and sharp on the ball. They deserved to win.

Onkaar: It was a good match, but we lost! I set one up for Jordan, who scored.

Under 11 Girls' Football v Fair Oak, 14th March

Mr O'Flaherty: The girls played excellent football. All deserved to be person of the match. Four players scored. I hope to take them to the Hampshire All Girls Championship in April. The parents thought we looked smashing and really professional in our new strip.

Ella: I was striker for the first half and scored the first goal, but in the second half I played in goal and got really bored. I only had to save the ball twice and spent the rest of the time swinging from the cross bar! I still had a really good game.

Fiona: It was a fun game. Our opposition was sponsored by Walkers, but our strip sponsored by Kuties looked better.

Jessica: We had a good game which was fun, but we were quite lucky at times. I scored by tapping in the ball after I shot at goal and it rebounded off the goal post.

Laura: I had a shot at goal, even though I played in defence. We took a corner and I came forward. My shot just went over the cross bar.

Bazuka Swimming Gala, 9th March

The school took a Form 6 team to The Quays to take part in the water polo and relay competitions.

Frank: I enjoyed the whole experience. I was in goal, but I think I came out of goal too far.

Onkaar: I was in goal for one match and defence for the other three matches. It was good.

Laura: We were out of practice, so the first game was hard, but we quickly improved. I swam in all four matches.

Fiona: I played in two of the games and we won both of them. At the end, we were going to have our photos taken, but the photographer had disappeared!

Jordan : I really enjoyed it and not just because I scored four goals, three in one match. I swam in all four matches.

Rachel: I played in three of the games and scored. I was pleased.

Max: I played in every match in defence. I made a couple of good stops. The goal fell over a couple of times!

Sanghoon: I was in the freestyle relay team and we came third. I was also in the water polo team and we came third overall, too, so I got two bronze medals.

Jessica: It was interesting and cool. There were some really fast people there. I swam in the relay.

Bane: I can't wait for the next match. I really enjoyed it. The Quays was good and I was really pleased with us being third overall.

Under 11 Hockey v Hampshire Collegiate. 8th March

Sanghoon: I enjoyed it. Everyone played really well, but Ben deserved Man of the Match. He was very good.

Max: Their keeper had padding, so he had a lot more confidence to come out. We tried really hard.

Euan: I was captain. It was a hard match. I did a lot of tackling. I thought the score line was a bit one sided, but it did not matter because I enjoyed it.

Ben: It was a hard match and I needed some padding, but I saved a few goals as well as letting some in.

Under 8 Football v Woodhill 8th March

Men of the Match: Lars and George

George: We lost 7-0, but it was a good match. I kicked the ball and it went round the side of the post and under the net. We all thought it was a goal. We were wrong.

Orla: I was goalie in the second half and only let in three but I saved about five! This was the first time I have played in a match. We had squash and biscuits at the end.

Daniel: It was a fair match. I thought they were very good. They practice every day.

Jeevan: , I played well, but the ground was very big.

Sanjiv: It was quite good, but I got a ball in my eye. It made my eyes water but I played on.

Lars: I liked it. I was in goal for the first half. The goal seemed enormous. In the second half I did a lot of tackling. That was the best part. It was really fun.

James: it was a good game but we lost. The other team were small but hard.

Harry: I enjoyed it, but I was striker and nobody passed the ball to me!

Under 11 Football v Sherbourne House 7th March

Man of the Match: Sanghoon

Jordan : I was the captain. I only got one shot at goal. The other team defended well. My free kick from near the halfway line nearly scored. The goalie missed it, but a defender got in the way.

Sanghoon: I did my best, but they had some good chances. Although I saved a lot of goals, I still let some in.

Rachel: Sanghoon played well in goal, but their defence was strong, so we got very little of the ball. I took one long shot to get past their players, almost from our own goal, which went nearly to their goal, but a defender stopped it.

Under 8 Football v Rookesbury 6th March

Man of the Match: Arman

Frey: We had a good first half, but the pitch was tilting and we had to play uphill in the second half. In one of their goals the ball went through a hole in the net and into a deep ditch!

Min Je: It was a good game. I played my best

George: It was very muddy! We only scored once from a shot by Arman.

James: I enjoyed it and played my best, but I did not get very much of the ball.

Under 10 Football v Rooksbury, 27th February

Mr O'Flaherty: The teams played excellently. There was the right balance of competition and fun, with a fantastic atmosphere. The Man of the Match was Toby.

Lucy: It was a good match, but I did not play my best. I was better after I scored a goal which I curved in from the right hand side.

Adam: I enjoyed the match, but we got drenched! It was a good job that we were playing on Astroturf; otherwise we would have been covered in mud, too.

Toby: We had to borrow two of their players to make up the numbers because some people were ill, and one of them, who was the striker, scored for us. The trouble was that towards the end he passed the ball instead of shooting. I scored the goal that made it 3-3, but someone let in an own goal, so they won 4-3. (It wasn't me honest!)

Stephen: We would have won if we had had more players, but it was a good match.

Under 9 Football v Rooksbury, Thursday, 15th February

Mr O'Flaherty: It was a good match, played with a good spirit. Our star player was ill, but the team played really well, especially since the opposition were all Year 4 and we ranged from Form 3 to Form 1. Toby was the Man of the Match.

Arman: It was very hard to sore against them because they had a good goalie, but Toby scored off one of my passes. I was especially pleased with that one because I was right in the corner and used my weaker foot.

George: I played better than last time, so I was pleased with my game.

Toby: I was glad to be captain, but fed up when they scored so quickly. Their own goal equalized for us and we kept trying. I scored twice for us, making it three all, but they scored in the last minutes of the match.

Seung yeon: It was a hard match because they had more experience and knew quite a few tricks. I did a lot of tackling.

Neeraj: I hit the post! Nearly scored! Maybe next time.

James: It was a good match. I tackled well and really enjoyed it. They all seemed big because they were form 4 and I am only Form 1

Under 11 Six a side Football v Meon Cross Thursday, 1st February

Jordan : I nearly scored. I hit the post, hit the cross-bar and hit the goalie, but never the back of the net!

Onkaar: Jordan sent me a really good pass and I scored from it.

Max: I had a couple of shots at goal, but they were deflected. I enjoyed the game.

Rachel: I tackled one boy and he fell over and started crying just to get the attention of the ref. They were awarded a free kick, which they scored from. We should have formed a wall.

Sanghoon: They were really fast. I'm normally in goal but this time I was in defence. I prefer goalkeeping.

Under 10 Six a side Football v Meon Cross, Thursday, 1st February

Adam: It was a very hard match. I scored two own goals in style! The first was a deflection off my heel and the second went right under my boot, touching the sole. It was not my day, especially when I injured my foot.

Toby: They scored quickly and we thought they would race ahead, but we equalized and it looked like we were even, but it was 2-1 down at half time and after that the score shot to 5-1. The next one they scored was off a corner which I caused. Worse than that, they scored off me! It was a deflection, an own goal!

Stephen: They were a really good team. They won fair and square. The final score was 8-2 to them.

Bane: I scored both our goals and really enjoyed the match. There was a lot of fouling, but not us…of course.

Under 9 Football v Hampshire Collegiate Thursday 25th January

Seung yeon: It was quite a hard game, but good. I did quite a lot of tackling and would have scored a goal if a big boy had not kicked the ball just as I was shooting at the goal

Arman S: I had a few chances, but I was unlucky. We lost 7-1, but we could have been closer if we had made our chances into goals. Neeraj scored our goal. He was in the right position to put one in the bottom corner.

Neeraj: It was a good match. I was playing well and was pleased I scored.

Toby: I was in goal for quite a lot of the match. It was my first time as goalie. I made loads of saves, but I let in most of their goals. I was still quite chuffed with myself. Mr O'Flaherty said I was the second best player in the team.

Sam: They were a hard team to play against, but we played our best. Often when I got the ball there was no one near me…except their players!

Under 10s Football v Rooksbury  23rd January

Player of the Match: Georgia M, closely followed by Joe.

Lucy: I think I played quite well. I scored a goal.

Adam: I enjoyed the game, but I was not match fit, as I have not played for a long time. Two of our players scored in our own goal!

Bane: it was a hard game, but I enjoyed it. I scored in the right net twice, but in the wrong net once!

Stephen: It was a good match and a fair one. Somebody kicked the ball straight at me and it bounced into our net.

Joe: It was really fun, but the shots were hard to save, especially their last goal.

Toby: It was good at first, especially when they scored an own goal because we felt we could win, but at half time it was 2-2. Even then we were in with a chance. When it was 4-2 and we pulled one back, we still had hopes, but, oh no, we let in another home goal and it was too late to do anything about it.
