Highlights of Autumn Term 2007

Singing in the Bargate Centre:

Francesca: It was OK, but I thought we would have our pictures taken with Santa. We didn’t, but I enjoyed the singing and my Dad came.

The Carol Service

This year the Carol Service was held in Avenue St Andrew’s Church, on 6th December. The Nativity Play was ‘A Wriggly Nativity’.

Simon S: I think it went OK, even though some bits went not quite right! I enjoyed it. I felt quite important, but a bit nervous about being one of the readers.

Harvir: It was great. I enjoyed my part as a star.

Kieran: I thought it was very good. I enjoyed being a reader. I wasn’t really nervous because I had practised.

Sherie: I was a star and I loved it. It was really good even though I was nervous.

Victor: It was good. I was a camel, bobbing about. It was a good costume, but quite itchy. I was nervous at the start, but it went as we went down the aisle.

Jeevan: I was one of the kings. They had good costumes, but without the crown I looked like a shepherd. It was really fun.

Min Je: I was rent-a-crowd. I really enjoyed it.

Arman: I was rent-a-crowd. I really liked the bit about wriggling. It was quite scary at first in front of all the parents.

Yong yeon: I was really nervous at the church because lots of people were looking at me, but when I played my clarinet, it worked well. Often when I am nervous I don’t play so well. I would like to do it again.

Travel Plan Meeting, 14th November

Mrs Pearcey and the Head Boy and Girl went to the Guildhall to a School Travel Plan network meeting.

Ellie: It was a new experience. At first it was nerve-wracking, but it was fun in the end. I liked the chocolate biscuits!

Bane: All the people there had good ideas. There were good activities, good goody bags and it was fun.

Mrs Pearcey’s Birthday.

Pupils wearing yellow in an assembly given my the Myasthenia Gravis Association

Mrs Pearcey celebrated her fiftieth birthday on Tuesday, 30th October. We had a wear-something-yellow non-uniform day and Mrs Finney, from the  Myasthenia Gravis Association, came in and talked to the school before we went outside and planted daffodils as part of ‘poshing up the playground’. At lunch time there was a surprise party for Mrs Pearcey.

Francesca W: It was fun, especially when we had cake. I thought the colours were really nice. I enjoyed planting the daffodil.

Abiola: Eating the pretzel sticks was really good. I borrowed a yellow shirt to wear. It was fun.All the pupils planted a daffodil

Alistair: I liked planting the daffodils but eating the cake and ice-cream were the best bits. It was good.

Harris: Eating the bread was good. We looked all over the school for daffodils.

Hanna D: I thought it was really, really good. The best bits were finding the daffodil pictures and I liked eating the cake. I liked wearing yellow.

Annabelle: I liked the ice-cream and I enjoyed planting the daffodils and finding the daffodil picture.

Min Je: I thought eating the cake and looking for daffodils was best. I wore yellow.

‘Johnny Spacehopper and his vital statistics.’  The Anvil Theatre, 16th October

Forms 4, 5 and 6 went to a maths lesson in the form of theatre at The Anvil. Johnny Spacehopper and his friends used statistics to sort out their opponents who had stolen the book of knowledge to help them destroy the Earth!

Serena R: It had a good story line and I learned some maths.

Ajay: It was quite good. I learned about fighting! They were really good actors.

Sam J: I enjoyed it and learned something, but the rocking of the coach made me very sleepy on the way home.

Hershila: It was good fun, especially the last bit, when they fought like in Star Wars. The maths got complicated, though.

Louise: It was a bit like Star Wars. The bad guy was weird and looked like the Emperor from Star Wars. It was fun with maths in it as well.

Emily B: It was cool. They actors were good and it was clever and funny the way they changed scenes.

Frey: The actors were funny. There were only three of them and the played all the roles.

Tristan: I enjoyed it, but it was a bit too mathematical, with words you can’t understand. The story line was fun.

Pupils and staff wore their jeans to school on Friday 5th October to support the Jeans for Genes charities. £91 was raised.

MacMillan Coffee Morning on Friday 28th September

The event raised £408 for the charity through sales of cakes and coffee as well as raffles.

Thank you to everyone who provided cakes, raffle prizes, as well as those who came to enjoy the entertainment. A special thanks to the group of Mums who served the coffees and cleared up.

Yellow Zone - The yellow zone outside the school has been enhanced by the addition of yellow lines and a yellow lamp post, as you can see on our homepage. St Winifred’s is supporting Southampton City Councils push to get drivers to ‘Respect Schools Zigzag Lines’ these highlight the area outside schools so crossing the road is safe for pupils. If you would like a car sticker to highlight this they are available from the school office.

image of the newly painted playground

The playground fence was painted over the summer holidays and looks fantastic.

Thank you to all those arents, staff, Governors and Trust members who gave up their time to help with the mammoth task of preparing the fence for its face lift! As well as the PTFA for their support.

Thank you also to everyone who supported our fund raising lastyear to enable us totransform the play ground. It really does look much better.image of painting on the back wall of the playground

Mr Yerbury has taken the pupils' ideas and created a super wall painting to go behindthe pirate ship.

The proceeds from Kuti's Brasserie's Informal Supper night enabled us to transform the rather boring back wall.

We thank Mr Miah for his support.image of painting on the back wall of the playground
