Key Stage 3

With the ever- expanding role of ICT in society, it is increasingly important that students leave secondary education well equipped to meet the demanding needs of the full spectrum of jobs and careers.  A good working knowledge of ICT enables students to be adaptable and transfer their skills to other packages designed for specialised application within a particular work place.

We are committed to providing the very best ICT software and systems.  We have three dedicated computer suites in School, which are complemented by three sets of wireless laptops for whole-class use.   Our network supports a wide range of software including Word Processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, data handling, graphics packages, internet access and various subject- specific programs installed within departments. There is a broadband internet link to all stations across the school network and  students have a school email address which enables them to transfer work to and from their home computers.

Year 7

Students cover aspects of internet security as a priority. They also acquire and develop ICT skills, study a range of information sources, produce meaningful booklets with regard to a prescribed audience, are introduced to spreadsheets as ‘models’, learn to handle and present data and experiment with setting up programs to control familiar everyday features of daily life such as traffic lights and lighthouses.

Year 8

Students have the security aspects of accessing the internet reinforced.  They build on skills learnt in Year 7 applying them in the study of public information systems, the world wide web - including learning how to make informed decisions on the reliability and validity of the materials that they access, more advanced use of spreadsheets, and they complete a major project that requires them to draw on the facilities offered by a number of different software packages.

Year 9

Students continue to build upon the skills acquired during years 7 and 8 in the completion of three major projects.  Using research skills and showing evidence of sourcing, they will incorporate non-ICT materials into their projects using scanners and digital cameras, and combine the features of a range of software packages.

Students in years 7-9 are assessed in ICT against criteria which are based on National Curriculum levels
