Diploma in Digital Applications
The Edexcel Diploma in Digital Applications Suite of qualifications is made up of four qualifications, from the Award, equivalent to 1 GCSE to the Diploma equivalent to 4 GCSEs. Students must complete a compulsory unit on using ICT to gain the Award and then can choose from a range of additional units to achieve the other qualifications. The optional units include:
- Multimedia
- Graphics
- ICT in Enterprise
- Game Authoring
The course prepares students for a world increasingly dominated by the use of ICT, as well as allowing students to focus within the different fields of ICT capability and enable them to experience a more career-oriented ICT course. DiDA provides all students with the essential foundation skills to enable them to achieve in further education and the workforce.
All students complete the compulsory unit during year 9 and then have the choice of an additional 1, 2 or 3 units as an option in years 10 and 11.
Students will study:
- how to use ICT within a range of situations
- the positive and negative effects of ICT on society
- how ICT facilitates different careers
- hardware, software and communication networks.
Students will learn:
- how to use software such as word processing, databases, spreadsheets, web authoring etc.
- practical use of ICT systems
- key skills in numeracy, communication and ICT
- how to apply ICT to real life situations and solve problems within a range of situations
- how to use ICT to research, acquire, manipulate and present information.
Assessment:
Assessment for each unit is 100% coursework via e-portfolio. The e-portfolio is a digital portfolio of evidence, in the form of a website. This site will be created alongside the Summative Project Brief which is set by the exam board each year.
